TRADITIONAL VALUES
Dr Bjelović began his training at the Esophagus Surgery Centre at the Clinical Centre of Serbia, which is the regional centre for the surgery of the esophagus.
He continued at the National Cancer Center in Tokyo (Japan), which sets the standards of contemporary diagnostics and treatment of esophageal cancer.
COMBINING TRADITION AND INNOVATION
Dr Bjelović was the first to start performing laparoscopic and thoracoscopic esophageal cancer surgery building on the experience of professor James Luketić, the surgeon who set the standards of contemporary minimally invasive treatment of esophageal cancer in one of the most well-known centres for this type of surgery in the US (the University Hospital in Pittsburgh).

IT IS NECESSARY TO ENSURE THE PATIENT’S NUTRITION EVEN WHEN THE SURGERY HAS TO BE POSTPONED
In a number of patients, surgical treatment needs to be postponed because chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy need to be carried out first.
Before the start of treatment, adequate nourishment has to be ensured by:
Endoscopic esophageal stent insertion
Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG)
TREATMENT FOCUSED ON PATIENTS' BEST INTERESTS - ERAS PROTOCOL
Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol represents a modern concept of surgical treatment.
It is focused on reducing stress caused by surgery.
Complications and recovery after operations are reduced by 30-50%.
